Laws Can’t Erase History

They May Try, But They Can Never Erase Black History…

As a white person, I can’t truly relate to the kind of disrespect and discrimination black Americans have experienced and endured, but I saw it firsthand. I know it existed and continues today.

I wish I could change the past, but that’s impossible, however I believe as long as we keep the past memories alive, the far right’s efforts to silence the truth and erase Black History will never succeed. Slavery existed, lynchings happened, segregation was rampant and separate but equal was the law.

Even with all the hurdles placed in front of them by the white community, many black Americans rose above the challenges of discrimination and changed the face of this country for the good.

Sure, the struggle continues; discrimination and inequities still exist, but as long as the memories of the past are kept alive and the successes and advances of the black community are preserved and recognized, progress is possible.

We must teach our children well…
